The Art of Silajai

This page features the in progress photos of Prismacolor color pencil paintings/illustrations on vellum.  Work begins by transferring the sketch to vellum.  As you can can see, the painting of each work of art begins with the big eyes of the animal or bird.  The eyes are the focal point for the entire work...if they're not right, there's no point in continuing on!  Layer by layer, color pencil is applied until the work of art is complete.  Sometimes as many as 20 layers of color are applied atop of one another until the desired effect is achieved.  It is a time consuming, yet extremely rewarding process.
